Highly Sought-After DHS Partnership Prevents Human Trafficking And Increases Greenhouse Sustainability
Shield of Valor Executive Protection met with senior officials of the Department of Homeland Security to discuss a partnership fighting to prevent human trafficking. Working in conjunction with the sustainable supply chain project Digitally Connected USA from Velourit, the Black farming community can provide trafficking victims safe spaces for healing.
“No one is coming to save us, but us,” explained Velourit Chief Executive Officer Brooke Sinclair about the sustainable supply chain project Digitally Connected USA. Velourit digitally connects black retailers and distributors to black farmers through an app. Then Velourit uses black-owned trucking companies to transport the goods. Essentially creating a black, or Freedmen-owned, supply chain. This is a particularly important topic as the federal government continues to promote preparation for America’s planned food shortage.
Freedmen-owned companies, Shield of Valor and Velourit, work with an extended team of nonprofits focused on recovery and healing from Detroit to the District of Columbia. Non-profits such as Valor Elite Youth Enrichment Foundation and Rivervision Community Development Corporation signed on to answer the call to action from Black American farmers and landowners, after realizing money from the government was not coming. After Biden reneged on his promise of $4 billion in debt relief to black farmers, Black America declared a state of emergency and sued the federal government.
Because of the state’s location near major interstate highways, a large transient population, and numerous rural agricultural areas, North Carolina is a hotbed for human trafficking. The National Human Trafficking Resource Center ranks North Carolina #9 for human trafficking which makes the highly anticipated partnership between Shield of Valor and DHS — where a nonprofit deprograms victims recovered and healed from human trafficking — this sustainable supply chain project also prevents human trafficking west of the Mason-Dixon.
Digitally Connected USA is scheduled to begin delivering ready-made meal kits harvested from Velourit’s exclusive network of Freedmen Farms in March 2023. The first brand launched from the project, 200 black farmers in an undisclosed location in North Carolina are also producing prepackaged chopped produce and “ready-to-eat” meal kits. In 2021 North America’s meal kit industry represented nearly half (46%) of the global fresh-food market, that year North America alone reported $6.9 billion in sales. Chopped produce and vegetables represent huge financial opportunities — high-value items with high returns — thanks to an untapped sustainable resource.
